Wineries, Distilleries & Breweries

Wine
Northeast Victoria is home to renowned wine regions such as Rutherglen, Alpine Valleys, King Valley, and Glenrowan. Blessed with rich, fertile soils, clean water, and a favourable seasonal climate, the area is ideal for viticulture.

  • Rutherglen is steeped in winemaking history, particularly known for its muscat, tokay, and bold red wines. Today, modern winemakers are putting a fresh spin on these traditional styles.
  • Alpine Valley benefits from unique sub-alpine conditions, resulting in wines of exceptional elegance.
  • King Valley, with its high altitudes and scenic beauty, is gaining recognition for its distinctively flavoured wines.
Glenrowan stands out for its full-bodied reds and fortified wines—and not to forget, its strong association with Ned Kelly lore.

Distilleries
Victoria’s High Country distilleries draw inspiration from their natural surroundings, crafting spirits with character and creativity. Using pure alpine spring water and regional botanicals, local distillers produce:

  • Smooth yet spicy gins
  • Barrel-aged single malts
  • Small-batch rye whiskeys
  • Inventive collaborations and regional expressions

These spirits reflect both the purity of the environment and the passion of the makers.

Brewers
Embark on the High Country Brewery Trail, a journey that combines stunning scenery with exceptional craft beer. The region is home to a collection of independent breweries that:

  • Use locally grown hops
  • Offer a diverse range of beer styles
  • Provide a relaxed, immersive experience perfect for a multi-day road trip
Whether you’re hiking, biking, or just cruising, it’s the ideal way to enjoy both the landscape and the brews.

Bright Brewery was born in 2005 from a passion for well-made beer, a love for the town of Bright and its pristine alpine environment, and the adventurous outdoors lifestyle that the High Country provides.

The brewery was founded by Scott Brandon, his late wife Fiona Reddaway and their friends David and Julia, driven by a desire to make beer great and to share Bright’s spectacular surrounds and environment with everyone who passes through our town.

Between 2006 and 2011, this humble brewery and adjoining bar was housed in two small tin sheds, with only limited outdoor seating.

In 2012, Bright Brewery underwent substantial redevelopment, transforming the small and simple brewery and bar into an environmentally considered, multipurpose, all-weather venue, with seating capacity for over 250 people.

In 2014, Bright Brewery added a stunning Hop Terrace, providing the most attractive place in Bright to enjoy beers and meals outdoors.

Ross Gehrig, a fifth generation winemaker has an obsession with producing the best grapes to produce wines of distinction that pay homage to this iconic King Valley winery in North Eastern Victoria. Ross’ father John established the vineyard and winery on the banks of the King River, in the townships of Oxley in 1976. Ross has taken on the challenge of guiding the next winemaking generation of Gehrigs to craft fine wines.

In 2011, the allure of returning back into John’s original birthplace – Rutherglen- was too strong, thus Ross with wife Meghan, have expanded to a new vineyard and cellar door site in Gooramadda (east Rutherglen).

At Glenbosch, it’s not just about creation. It’s about the passion and dedication in every sip.

Welcome to Glenbosch, where the art of winemaking and spirits crafting takes center stage. Picture our estate nestled in the heart of serene landscapes in the Victorian High Country, where every bottle reflects the meticulous care we pour into our craft. Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or new to the world of fine beverages, come with us on a journey of taste.

For over eight generations, the Bester family has been deeply rooted in grain and sheep farming in the Swartland Region of Western Cape, South Africa. Facing challenges with safety on the family farm, Glen Peter, Dirk and his father, Dirk-senior, made the bold decision to sell and seek new opportunities. Despite exploring various countries, it was the allure of the ‘land down under’ that resonated with them, marking the first move in 300 years for the Bester family.

Nestled in the heart of North-Eastern Victoria lies Rutherglen, the unrivaled home of Australian fortified wine.

For over 160 years, the Morris family has earned a stellar reputation as one of Australia’s most respected winemaking families.

The Morris range of fortified, table, and sparkling wines are crafted with the same passion, dedication, and traditional methods that have defined the family’s winemaking since 1859.

In 2016, a distillery was built around the original copper still, first constructed in the 1930s and installed at the Morris winery in 1941. Today, we continue to honour decades of tradition, blending our heritage still and ancient fortified casks with modern techniques to create wines and whisky that are a true expression of this unique time and place.

Woodpark Wines was etablished by winemaker John Stokes in 1989, the vineyard is nestled amidst regenerating bushland at the foothills of the Victorian Alps.

The vineyard’s range includes varietals such as Cabernet, Shiraz, Sangiovese, Tempranillo, Zinfandel, Petit Verdot, Viognier, and Roussane, all grown in gravelly clay on the warmer home block. The cooler Whitlands Plateau at the southern end of the King Valley provides the perfect conditions for Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, while the high ridges of the Buckland Valley yield exceptional Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. Chardonnay comes from 35-year-old vines in Whorouly South, adding another layer of complexity to the portfolio.

John’s winemaking journey began somewhat unexpectedly when he stomped on a small vat of his Cabernet/Shiraz grapes and was pleasantly surprised to win Best Overall Wine at the local wine show. He followed up with two more wins, sparking a deep passion for winemaking.

Mostly, we make Gin. An idea that was born from an aversion to getting up and driving to work in the morning and an appreciation for the calming effects of a libation poured over ice in the evening time. And so, Hurdle Creek Still came to be on the family property in the King Valley in March 2016.

All of our products are made and bottled onsite in The StillHouse. Our base spirit is made from locally sourced grain using a traditional infusion mashing system and twice distilled though our extended copper & glass column still, which gives our gin a unique smooth grain character – The Process. The juniper and a select blend of local and native botanicals – some of which are grown in our garden – are vapour infused into the spirit ensuing light, subtle flavours throughout our gins.

Established in 1870, the certified organic vineyard contains some of the oldest plantings in North East Victoria, upon which Baileys has established a reputation for powerful red wines and globally acclaimed fortifieds.

Baileys of Glenrowan wines will always speak of their place of origin and showcase our famed style. The Baileys vineyard produce wines with lifted aromatics, enormous depth of flavour and concentration. In the winery we craft wines that can be enjoyed in their youth but will be equally suited to the cellar.

The Bundarra Organic Kitchen fully came to vision at the end of 2020. After being in lockdown for 7 months we applied our passion for organic farming and food by relaunching the Old Block Café into the Bundarra Organic Kitchen.
